What Is a 50-Year CertainTeed Warranty? (And Why It Matters for Your Roof)

A “50-year roof warranty” deserves a closer look before you choose a reroof proposal. The length printed in a brochure does not, by itself, establish which problems are covered, who handles a claim, or whether your installation qualifies.

Standard coverage and enhanced coverage are different

Manufacturer coverage and contractor workmanship coverage address different responsibilities. CertainTeed offers warranty options with eligibility requirements; the applicable document, installed system and contractor credentials determine the coverage available. Ask for the exact warranty name and a copy of its current terms before signing.

What does “50 years” actually mean?

It does not promise that every roof will last 50 years or that every repair will be free. Compare covered defects, exclusions, any reduced coverage over time, labor and removal provisions, transfer conditions and claim requirements. Confirm whether workmanship is included or addressed by a separate contractor warranty.

Why contractor eligibility matters

If a proposal includes an enhanced manufacturer warranty, request evidence of the contractor’s current eligibility for that specific program and written confirmation of the qualifying installation.

Compare the complete roof system

Have your roofer identify the proposed shingles, underlayment, starter, ventilation, flashing and other required components. Ask which components are necessary for the offered coverage and who completes any required registration.

Keep the paperwork with your roof records

Retain the signed scope, product information, paid invoice, installation records and issued warranty. Questions are easier to resolve when the written offer and the final documents agree.

Read CertainTeed’s warranty overview, then compare the actual documents supplied with your proposal.
